Government Authorities have created an organized registration procedure of the company under Legal Metrology ASC. ASC helps the company in Licensing/Registration under the Legal Metrology Act (Weight & Measures and Packaged Commodity goods).
Registration of Importer
A measuring instrument importer who is competing to establish a business in the Indian market necessities to register itself to acquire the Legal Metrology or Weights and Measures Certificate The registration application is filed in schedule X under Rule 15 and acquired under section 19 of Legal Metrology Act 2009.
Obtaining License as a Manufacturer
Legal Metrology has defined specific licenses and application procedures associated with weighing and measuring devices. These procedures comprising of marketing, manufacturing, import, and related equipment and devices. Legal Metrology License as manufacturer rules also states that a company needs to perform regular and periodic updates and license renewals. Model Approval
Every model of weight and measuring instrument that falls under the Legal Metrology Act needs to obtain a Model Approval from the Legal Metrology Department. An approval model application details have to be filed according to the models and their documentation requirements. A certificate of approval granted, verified and certified must also be submitted with the application.
Relating to the detailed report defer to by the referral laboratory, the Central Legal Metrology Department might grant approval to the respective instrument/device models. Upon, the model approval of the instrument is allocated a unique code. It is then the manufacturer's responsibility to mention this code on labels /certificates affixed upon each device and instrument sold by the importer or manufacturer.
