The Legal Metrology Department of Consumer Affairs came into force in that year 2009 and it deals with the regulation of manufacturing, importing and company dealing with weighing and measurement instruments and devices.
Every company or individual dealing with pre-packed goods need to register themselves as an 'Importer', a 'Manufacturer'/ or a 'Packer' with the Director of Legal Metrology Act in particular Jurisdiction. The Legal Metrology Rules, 2011 completely deals with statutory requirements to be followed by an individual dealing with and assertions made for 'Packaged commodities'.
- Get the application for registration of your specific company name, renewal of registration of exporter/importer of weight and measure via, the Legal Metrology Department of State /UT in which the exporter /Importer is located along with demand draft.
- Legal Metrology Registration is only applicable for the items of Weight and Measure listed under the General Rules.
- This process needs to be returned to the Controller/Director of Legal Metrology within 7 days of receipt of application.
- If the legal metrology application is completed in all aspects, the Legal Metrology registration certificate will be granted within 10 days of application received under intimation of the controller/director of Legal Metrology.
