What does the Bureau of Indian Standards do?

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the National Standards Body of India established under the BIS Act 2016. It was formed for the harmonious development of the activities under Conformity Assessment and Standardization. BIS Registration offers tangible benefits to the economy through standardization, certification and testing that ensures providing safe & high quality goods, promoting exports and imports, minimizing health hazards to consumers, control over explosion of varieties among others.

Why do you need BIS Certification?

In simple word, Bureau of Indian Standards is a certification body in India. BIS Certification is a means for providing third party guarantee of quality, safety and reliability of products to the customer. BIS Certification is voluntary in nature; though the BIS scheme is not mandatory for all the product, yet the government in the interest of the public health and safety has made mandatory for the listed products to obtain BIS registration.
